The first book in the Evernight series (ugh series!) The story follows a girl named Bianca who begins attending a prestigious private academy called Evernight; but she doesn’t feel as though she fits in, like she’ll never be on the level of the other students. She meets a boy – naturally – and things escalate, but a huge secret might just get in their way!
I liked this book, it took me forever to read for some reason. I think that the use of language was good, and Claudia has this way of narrating with all these cryptic little sayings, so it makes for a really cloak and dagger kind of read (if that even makes sense). The story was good too, plenty of twists and turns along along the pages…
That being said, it’s a series, and I’ve been trying to get out of the realm of series (I mean hello, Harry Potter, Twilight, House of Night, Mortal Instruments, Immortals, Ruined, Cirque de Freak, Blue Bloods… I just read too many of them!) so I’m not sure when/if I will continue this series. I liked it, and there are definitely tons of unresolved plot holes that need to be answered, but I just don’t know if the series will hold my attention long enough for me to committ to it… Series are lovely, and they make it easy to tell a really compelling story because you have novel upon novel to do it, but I just don’t know how invested I will be in this one so I think I’ll focus on some other (hopefully not series) books first.
But if you’re in the mood for a psedo-urban-goth-chic kind of book that is just teeming with raging hormones and dark secrets, then Evernight is where it’s at.
