“Dead Beautiful”

So this is a review for the book, “Dead Beautiful” by Yvonne Woon

This is the story of a girl, Renee Winters, who’s parents die and she is sent to live with her Grandfather, who sends her to Gottfried Academy in Attica Falls, Maine…

So, initially when reading this book I rolled my eyes a lot and scoffed.  “Twilight”, and “Vampire Diaries” called and they wanted their plot line, along with their brooding mystery men, back.  As early as page 103 (its a 455 page novel) I was seeing signs of “Twilight”.  Edward Cullen was present initially in the male counterpart of Dante Berlin; even down to the fact that Renee and Dante were lab partners 0.0 cliche. On top of the fact that there was a Mike Newton-esque character (the only real “Vampire Diaries” leaps I made were a side mention of a boarding house and the fact that Attica Falls and Mystic Falls share the one word).

Anyway, with those prejudgments aside I read along (and well we all know how much I love my mysterious brooding men anyway).  I can say, having read the whole book now, that this book is NOTHING like “Twilight” or “Vampire Diaries” depsite those brief similarities.  While the aforementioned books are ones I enjoy “Dead Beautiful” was also enjoyed but in a completely different way.

The mystery of Gottfried Academy, of Renee’s family, of the students and teachers of Attica Falls, it keeps the reader page turning and unable to stop thinking about the book, even after it’s put down.  My only regret with this book is that I feel like it just ended.  It ended well (and no it’s not part of a series for those of you who don’t like to start new series), but I still feel like there could be more… I don’t want there to be a sequel, nor do I think there ever would/could be, but I didn’t want the book to end, that’s how much I was invested.

Anyway, this book is really good and I think you should read it if you like mystery.  ❤
